The Art and Science of Shockwave Treatment

ISMST as the only truly international shockwave society had its 20th Annual Congress in San Sebastian in June 2017. We are now a matured society and the leader in the art and science of Shockwave Treatment (ESWT).

Dear Friends and Members of the ISMST,         

It is a distinct pleasure for me to open the shockwave year 2019 with this editorial. Clinical shockwave therapy was started on Feb 7, 1980 in Munich, Germany with a successful kidney stone lithotripsy. Reviewing the past ten years of ISMST meeting abstracts, I found developments which will be hignlighted in more detail in Beijing in May.

In a few days, the 22nd ISMST Congress will be held in Beijing, China.

I would like to take this chance to thank all ISMST management board members, they choose Beijing to host this important congress. The 22nd congress will attract more than 1000 participant all over the world. Hundreds articles will be presented during the meeting.

Shockwave therapy (SWT) is gaining increasing acceptance and application in many areas of medicine, including “Regenerative Medicine”, by virtue of its recognized therapeutic effects, based on numerous basic science researches, which seek to shed light on the intimate mechanisms at the base of the biological SW effects, derived from mechanical stimulation (mechanotransduction).
