Dear friends,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to participate at the 15th ISMST Meeting which is scheduled to take place in Cartagena, Colombia on July 5th – 7th 2012, and held at the Cartagena Hilton Hotel and Convention Center. In keeping with the mission and the traditions of this organization, the 2012 meeting will bring together those actively engaged in Shockwave Medicine for the purpose of reviewing and discussing recent progress, exchanging information, and relating research to clinical studies.

After one and a half decades we have consolidated the use of ESWT in orthopedics, sports medicine and veterinary. The new research applications in fields such as cardiology and dermatology can show now their advances and evidences. This meeting also provides an excellent learning and mentoring opportunity for young investigators. They represent the future of scientific advancement in understanding the applications of such a fascinating therapeutic tool. Located in the heart of the Americas, Cartagena also provides the perfect scenario to expose all the regional efforts and experiences from North, Central and South America.

Biomedical research is vital to the long-term objectives of the health related industries. We are encouraged that our allied industrial sectors, as well as health-directed foundations recognize the importance of Shockwave Medicine research and participate in supporting scientific meetings. We believe you will benefit from participating in the conference, meeting leading scientists in the field, and conversing with poster presenters and others about your particular interests in ESWT research and development. The Americas are a great opening market for biomedical implants, devices and medications. We are sure that the impact of our meeting in the regional market will certainly result in the growth of ESWT in a clear benefit to our patients.

A Call for Abstracts will open online form July 2011. I encourage each one of our members to take advantage of renewing your membership and continue the growth of our scientific society. We invite you to come and experience this meeting with us as a speaker, poster presenter, attendee, exhibitor or sponsor and join us in our mission to promote research which will ultimately lead to a safe and efficient approach to known medical conditions.

And should you be planning to spend an extra day or so in Cartagena, there will be plenty of fun and interesting things to do, learn about, or experience… With its history, arts, sports, beautiful islands and beaches, Cartagena remains as a truly unique travel destination. A short trip away from the city will take you to the beautiful beaches of the Rosario and San Bernardo Islands. As we will proceed with the scientific program preparation, we will also continue to offer more information on sightseeing and spouse/guest programs.
